New Moon

A New Moon in Cancer can be a nest of diffuse lighting and emotional tides. This week's New Moon has the added amplification of a Jupiter cazimi or Sun conjunct Jupiter shortly prior. Many consider a Sun-Jupiter conjunction to be the luckiest day of the year, and by all accounts, that can be true. The Sun signifies our essential self, and Jupiter brings luck. This year, we have the added astrology of a Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries in a separating square to this New Moon (Sun and Moon). In addition, there is a little-talked-about object of the Kuiper belt, Chaos, conjunct the new moon. My mind has been stirring with Chaos all year.
The shorthand for how I am seeing this New Moon?
Embrace the chaotic good and make the most of it.
The astrological aspect of a square brings tension. A square to Saturn and Neptune is doubly tense because the energy of those two planets is divergent. The Saturn in Aries square to the Sun may add roadblocks and redirects. Saturn signifies limits and boundaries. This feels stranger and stronger as Neptune weaves weird tides of wild dreams and tiredness with its square to the Sun. Neptune dissolves. When the Moon enters the equation, it amps up our feelings, and our inner world becomes more obvious. Not yet clarity, but a sense of feeling emerges.
I see Jupiter in the mix of this heady New Moon in the Cardinal Water sign of Cancer, more as an amplifier of energies and not necessarily a boon of good fortune, although it certainly could be.
Can we create a spark in the initiation of water?
Jupiter is big sky energy; the amplifier, magnifier, and sometimes the one to make the energy so much that any overwhelm tips into something else entirely. The good news is that all squares come with the opportunity to create from the crisis, whether it is internal or external in nature. Jupiter can also give us the ability to zoom out, see the wider picture, and move from a different vantage point. Swim up and let Jupiter expand the creative ability of the squares.
This New Moon is in the zodiac sign of Cancer. Cancerian energy is known to swim in all directions. It gains wisdom from moving sideways and around things, reaching its destinations with a longer and sometimes more scenic journey.
Then there is the Chaos factor. I started delving into the energy of the dwarf planet, or more accurately, the cubewano Chaos, this year, for obvious reasons. The world is getting just a wee bit off-kilter in 2025. Chaos exists in the Kuiper Belt, which is a "space place" out beyond Neptune, where the icy evolver Pluto lives. Chaos was discovered in 1998, the same year Google was invented.
In some mythologies, Chaos represents the void before all creation. In astrology, it can signify where and how we deal with random and unresolved events. According to Philip Sedgwick, Chaos can denote the positive side of going with the flow and being orderly in the face of confusion; in contrast, the shadow side signifies projecting fears and assuming disaster is a step away. He also mentions “meditating upon de-materialization”. That seems very relevant at this moment when the excesses of the world have certainly reached a tipping point. All of these themes for the astrology of Chaos seem obvious with our current events.
At the most basic level, a New Moon is a point of creation in the lunar calendar. A dark and fertile space like a womb, where the spark of something new appears. Chaos gave birth to Gaia from the void. Cancer, the zodiac sign, is often associated with Mother Moon and nurturing elements. A Cancer New Moon and the myth of Chaos is like the unstruck sound or Anahata Nada. The void rings out in the darkness and from that space, the next cycle begins.
Cancer energy is at its best when it lovingly nurtures, and this New Moon requests creation from our unique gifts with tender compassion. It will push our soul’s wishes to the forefront, either in the material world (Saturn) or through a slide show of dreams (Neptune).
Is there a wild dream you have kept to yourself?
Keeping your dream or your heart's desire hidden only disrupts the flow of creation for all of us. Compassion for yourself and all of us (really the same thing) demands each of us to live our most authentic and exquisitely kind lives to the best of our abilities.
Let’s push the timeline forward in a good way!
Could you spend a few moments writing, drawing, or singing your dream life into existence?
Chaos
For those astrology nerds who are curious about Chaos, I took a look back at some of the Sun, Jupiter, and Chaos transits and previous correlated events. You may start to see a pattern. I decided not to list all, but a theme of civil rights, technology, and decolonization emerged among others. I listed some. I plan on looking into the upcoming Chaos-related transits as the years unfold, and I will add to the list in a historical sense, along with future events.
